Tempted

We have been looking at temptation lately. We studied about how even Jesus was tempted. He lived a life on earth and although we only looked at three examples that were given in the bible, it’s a safe bet to assume He was tempted every day. Just like us. By everyday things. Just like us. Tempted by the prospects of wealth, fame and yes I would dare to say he was even tempted by desires of the flesh. But the key difference here is that he did not give in. Not once.

Jesus was and is the only one to ever go through this world without sin. Without giving into temptation. But how?

And this brings us to our verse today. Let’s look at 1st Corinthians Chapter 10 verse 13.

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. -1st Corinthians 10:13

Okay. So I want to unpack that a little.

The first part of the verse kind of eludes to something more than we know. No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. It’s that “common to mankind” part that gets me. Does this elude to something more in the next life? I don’t know.

The next part however is comforting. God is faithful. That is most defiantly good to know. What is even better is to hear that He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. This is to say that no matter what you may be going through, no matter how tough it may be or how defeated you may feel, he would never put anything in your path that you could not handle.

And then He even goes on to tell us that when we DO face these hard times and temptations of the world that He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. If you look to him and let Him guide you He will show you the way through. He will give you safe passage and protection.

We just have a habit of looking to ourselves to solve our problems. We have this unfounded since of pride that only we can fix or do anything. No one else. But that is not true. We must look to him. Because…

So look to God. Let him lead you on the path that shows you the way through. And then…
