Bread At Midnight

Are we friends? I mean we have been doing these little videos for a while now so I feel like we are kind of like... well... friends. Right?

What would you do for a friend?

“Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’ And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’ - Luke 11:5-7

This sounds kind of like what I think I might say. I mean really, if my doorbell starts ringing in the middle of the night I am not going to be in the best of moods. I am going to be suspicious of whoever is at the door. What do they want? Why so late? I may even be inclined to tell them take a hike!

I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity: Or yet to preserve his good name he will surely get up and give you as much as you need. “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. -Luke 11: 8-10

I mean yeah. I would totally just get up and give them whatever they need.

I may have failed that test. I need to work on being more generous.

“Which of you fathers, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” -Luke 11: 11-13

So... this is pretty self-explanatory. It's put in plain English for us here in the NIV version. Our Father in heaven loves us. He wants what is best for us and if we only ask, he will give us what we need.
