Work. What can be said about work? It is... work.
Welcome to Soldier for Christ.
Some of us are fortunate enough to have a job to go to. Work that we get compensated for in some way. And some people really love the work they do. Some people may not enjoy the work so much. But there is one job, one type of work that we should all want to do.
Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” -John 6:28
This is another way of saying what must we do to be saved? What check list can we complete to know that God is happy with us, that he loves us and that we can get into heaven when our time on this earth is finished? I mean there must be some set of boxes I can check to be sure. Right?
The early Jewish community lived in just such a way. They had hundreds of laws that must be kept. But Jesus came and flipped all that upside down and gave a simple answer to the question.
Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?" Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” -John 6:28-29
How could this be? There were as I stated hundreds of laws that were passed down and now Jesus comes along and says all you need to do is believe in him? How can this be?
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. -Ephesians 2:8-9
This tells us that no one is better or worse than the other. We are all his and he loves us equally. There is no check box, no list of to do's... just the love of a father for his children.
I got to tell you knowing this makes it real easy to...
Press on and fight the good fight as a Soldier for Christ.
