10 Commandments - #2

Do you have a phone? Not the kind that’s attached to the wall but one that fits in your pocket? How much time you spend on it? Have a facebook account? How often do you check it? Do you have something in your life that takes your attention, like a lot?

* 1 And God spoke all these words: -Exodus 20:1

* 4 You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.

* 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,

* 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments. -Exodus 20:4-6

Now I know what you are thinking. I haven't made an idol. I cant even draw a straight line much less carve an idol. But we can and have a tendency to make idols out of just about anything. We can spend hours staring at our smart phones and countless days and nights chasing the dollar. Stuff that we can not take with us, stuff that in the long run is just not that important. But. We work our fingers to the bone to get the latest and greatest. Wanna know what Jesus said about it?

* “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” -Luke 16:13

He knew that people would be tempted by the things of this world. He warned that we can not be, for lack of a better word, slaves to money. To the things of this world that will fade away.

We are to keep God, Jesus first and foremost in our lives. We are to seek his will and serve Him and him only. Not false gods. Not the iphone or the bank account. God.

Press on. Fight the good fight. As a Soldier for Christ.
