Prophecy is defined as the foretelling or the prediction of something that is to come. A divinely inspired utterance or revelation. When Jesus was born he brought to fulfillment several prophecy's that were made hundreds of years before. That the Anointed one, the Son of God would come. The Hebrew word for this is Messiah, the Greek word is Christ. We are going to look at just a few of the prophecies that foretold the coming of Jesus the Christ.
Probably the most famous is that Jesus’ mother would be a virgin. This is covered in Isaiah where he says…
* Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. -Isaiah 7:14
Some others were that He would be a descendent of Isaac and Jacob and of the lineage of King David.
* “I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel. -Numbers 24:17
* “The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land. -Jeremiah 23:5.
We will dive deeper into the lineage next week I just wanted to point out here that it was all spoken about LONG before Joseph and Mary. It was all planned out.
Another of the more direct predictions is about Bethlehem. It was a small town of little importance, at the time anyway so the idea of something like the savior being born there was, well, laughable. But in Micah he tells us that this is exactly what would happen there.
* “But you, Bethlehem, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.” -Micah 5:2
There are many other examples about the life that Jesus would live. The perfect life he would live. There are prophecies about his crucifixion and the resurrection. Prophecies about his accention into Heaven and about how he now sits on the right hand of God.

for even more and more details about what we covered here.
Pretty cool right! All this stuff came to fruition just as the prophets said. This means we can have faith that God will once again keep his word.
So we have seen some of the prophecies that were made before the birth of Christ, next week we take a look at the players involved and find out what it was like when the announcement was made that these prophecies were about to be fulfilled. They had waited a LONG time for these things to happen.
Until then.
Press on. Fight the good fight. As a Soldier for Christ.
