* And God spoke all these words: -Exodus 20:1
* You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. -Exodus 20:7
Do not misuse the name of the Lord. People do this all the time and sometimes I think without even realizing it. But what does this exactly mean? To answer that I think you have to look at just who and what God is and what taking the name of the Lord God in vein does.
Flip it. Turn it around and look at it from His point of view. You have just gone out and bought a fancy new car. Your dream car, you LOVE this car. And you take it out to show it off only to find that a bunch of people are making fun of it. They start calling you names because you have this car. But it’s a good car! Right? You thought so. That may not be the best example but I think you get the point I am trying to make.
God is the architect of spaceship Earth. He made all that is seen and all that is unseen. From the biggest mountain to the deepest valley. From the largest of animals to the tiniest of cells. Even today people are discovering new creatures and finding new worlds and
* In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. -Genesis 1:1
He created it all. So to misuse his name is to diminish Him. To “throw shade” as the kids would say these days. It really boils down to one thing if you ask me. It’s just plan oh disrespect. Disrespect to God. God who created this world. He created us and he knew us before we were made. He gives us so much in this life so to disrespect that is just wrong. Give God the respect that is due. Do not lower His title or try to diminish his works by misusing his name.
Press on. Fight the good fight. As a Soldier for Christ.
