10 Commandments - #10

Creepy much? But there is some truth there. We don’t always seek these things out. We are exposed to marketing at every turn and we begin to want. There is a difference between want and need. Parents try to teach this to their children all the time and God is no different than any other parent trying to teach us, His children this difference.

* And God spoke all these words: -Exodus 20:1

* “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.” -Exodus 20:17

This comes back to number 8, right? You shall not steal. This is one of the oldest sins I think. Even God warned Adam and Even about the tree and what happened? Sure there was the temptation there but the want was also there, the coveting that which was forbidden. Even Jesus warned us in Luke…

* Be on your guard against all kinds of greed. -Luke 12:15

Because he knows our hearts. He knows our longing to be and to want more. And that is precisely where Jesus comes in. Jesus is our everything and we can do or be nothing without Him. When you can look to Jesus and find enjoyment in him, satisfaction in Him, all this material temporary stuff of this world just don’t matter anymore.

Jesus came to t his world for you. He should be and is enough.

Press on. Fight the good fight. As a Soldier for Christ.
